Conservation International’s 25th Anniversary Dinner 

Local Real Estate Professionals Donating to the Global Conservation Leader

Invited to Special Event with Speakers Harrison Ford and George Shultz

 

San Francisco, CA – May 16, 2012 – Sotheby’s International Realty, Inc., today announced that the company recently was a sponsor of Conservation International’s (CI) annual San Francisco dinner, which celebrated the 25th anniversary of the global conservation organization. Agents with the firm who have donated to CI were in attendance.

Guest speakers at the event included actor Harrison Ford and former U.S. Secretary of State George Shultz, who discussed their ongoing support for CI and the continued urgency of the issue of climate change.

The event was held on May 11 at the Woodside, CA, residence of Gordon Moore, founder of Intel Corporation, and his wife, Betty Moore. The setting of the dinner event, which was catered by Paula LeDuc Fine Catering, was an outdoor tent beside the Moore home in a meadow surrounded by gardens.

Sotheby’s International Realty representatives who attended included top donating agents Mary Fenton, Paul Ybarbo, Marylou Castellanos, Anne Herrera, Jeanine Murphy, Louis Silcox and Danielle Chavanon, as well as San Francisco brokerage manager Jeffrey Gibson.

“The Conservation International dinner made for a truly inspiring evening, with a panel of leading scientists and global leaders of diverse political positions presenting a strong case to help CI in its mission,” said Mary Fenton, who has been deeply rooted in conservation as a CI supporter, an EcoBroker and a founding auxiliary member of San Francisco Zoo. “To hear how the Moores, George Shultz and Harrison Ford have tirelessly supported CI’s efforts for more than 20 years compelled me to want to do more and to think about ways that I can contribute with feet on the street support in San Francisco.”

Sotheby’s International Realty has helped CI in its mission to care for nature for the well-being of humanity since launching its “Protect an Acre” program in October 2008 as well as a second program, “Save a Mile of Ocean,” in June 2011. To date the company has helped to symbolically protect 22,000 acres of tropical rainforest and 100 square miles of endangered ocean environments around the world.

These two programs operate via an innovative approach to company donations, whereby agents with the firm have the option of donating a portion of their sales commissions on behalf of clients in lieu of, or in addition to, a traditional closing or holiday gift. They can choose to donate to either or both of these initiatives, which are aimed at empowering societies to responsibly and sustainably care for nature and its gifts—a stable climate, fresh water, healthy oceans and reliable food—in order to ensure a better life for everyone everywhere. Sotheby’s International Realty annually matches a significant portion of the donations made by agents, and this year will match up to $20,000.
